Israeli Ambassador to US: 'We will not withdraw from southern Lebanon'

|
Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter addressed the memorandum of understanding signed between the U.S. and Iran and said in an interview with NPR that Israel "does not know what its details are." He added: "We are encouraged that the president is determined to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. We are less encouraged that Lebanon was included in the agreement with Iran. We believe it is neither helpful nor necessary." Regarding the Iranian claim that Israel is obligated to withdraw from Lebanon, Leiter said: "Absolutely not. The administration has been clear that the agreement has no connection to our withdrawal from southern Lebanon. We are not going to withdraw from southern Lebanon and the lunatics in Tehran have no business sticking their nose in."
