Since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, the IDF and Shin Bet have identified that Hamas has been attempting to restore its status, including through torture and harsh interrogations of Gaza residents. This was stated by IDF Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee, who noted that this is manifested "in torture and harsh interrogations of civilians in a desperate attempt to strengthen its position. The terror organization does not spare women and children and uses civilian facilities such as hospitals, schools and mosques for military purposes."
