Despite Supreme Court Ruling: Netanyahu Appoints David Zini as Shin Bet Chief

|
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed Major General David Zini as the next head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency). This was announced by the Prime Minister's Office. The announcement was made despite the Supreme Court's ruling that the dismissal of current Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar was illegal due to Netanyahu's conflict of interest in the 'Qatar-Gate' affair, and despite the opposition of Government Legal Adviser Gali Baharav-Miara. Zini's military career includes service as a fighter in the General Staff Reconnaissance Unit, commander of Battalion 51 in the Golani Brigade, commander of the Egoz Unit, commander of the Alexandroni Brigade, founder of the Commando Brigade, commander of the Training and Instruction Division, and commander of the General Staff Corps.
