Attorney General opposes national service as alternative route for ultra-Orthodox draft dodgers: 'Severe blow to equality'

|
Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has asked the Supreme Court to issue an interim order that would halt the alternative draft route for yeshiva students through civilian national service. In a response submitted to the court, it was written that the National Service Law should not be extended. According to her position, in the proposed arrangement, national service is an alternative route to military service for the population subject to conscription, open only to the ultra-Orthodox, and constitutes 'a severe blow to equality at a time when the IDF needs manpower.'
