The Jerusalem Magistrate Court on Tuesday, sentenced former minister and Shas leader Aryeh Deri to a suspended sentence of one year and a fine of NIS 180,000 one week after he pleaded guilty to tax evasions in a plea agreement with the prosecution.
Deri, who had served a prison term for corruption in the past, had resigned his Knesset seat but said he would remain at the head of the ultra-Orthodox party.
Should he attempt to elected to the parliament in the future, he may be rejected by the Elections Committee chair for his criminal activity.
