Armed forces have entered the buffer zone on the Syrian side of the Israeli border, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said Saturday, with attacks reported against UNDOF forces operating in the area.
“Israel is deeply concerned by violations of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement with Syria, which pose a threat to our security and that of our citizens, particularly in the Golan Heights,” Sa’ar stated. He emphasized that Israel remains uninvolved in Syria’s internal conflict.
The 1974 accord, established following the Yom Kippur War, created a buffer zone monitored by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) to prevent military clashes between Israel and Syria. Recent developments have raised alarm in Jerusalem, with Israeli officials reiterating their commitment to defending the country’s security.
