The United Nations special coordinator for middle eastern affairs, Norwegian Tor Wennesland, has been summoned for clarification by Israel's foreign ministry after tweeting his condolences to the family of slain Palestinian militant Ammar Mefleh.
"Horrified by today's killing of a Palestinian man, Ammar Mefleh, during a scuffle with an Israeli soldier near Huwara in the occupied West Bank. My heart felt condolences to his bereaved family," he wrote. "Such incidents must be fully and promptly investigated and those responsible held accountable."
Ammar was shot by a Border Patrol officer after trying to commandeer a vehicle by taking control of the officer's weapon and stabbing him while he was inside the car.
