Mossad confirmed on Wednesday that the Israeli national who was killed in the boating disaster at Lake Maggiore in Italy earlier this week was a former member of its ranks.
According to a statement, "due to his service in the organization, no further details about him can be disclosed".
However, the release mentioned that "the organization lost a dear member, a dedicated and professional employee who devoted his life to the security of the State of Israel for decades, even after his retirement".
"Mossad mourns the loss and shares the family's grief, whom it will continue to support and embrace."
The ex-spy's body was returned to Israel early Wednesday.
