Former Supreme Court chief justice Aharon Barak warned that Israel could face a civil war if internal divisions continue to deepen, particularly amid growing tensions over the expected dismissal of Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar.
In an interview with Ynetnews, Barak expressed concern over the government’s anticipated decision to remove Bar while the security agency is investigating the so-called "Qatar-Gate" affair, which involves members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.
"The biggest threat to Israeli society is the 'eighth front'—the severe rift between Israelis themselves," Barak said. "This divide is worsening, and I fear it is like a train going off the rails—spiraling into an abyss and leading to civil war. We must prevent the tyranny of the majority."
