He was convicted of attempted murder, aggravated assault under aggravating circumstances, and weapons possession. The prosecution requested a sentence of up to 17 years in prison and high compensation for the victim. The judges described the severe impact on the young woman: 'The incident, which was sudden and unexpected, shattered at once every fragment of hope she had for the protected life she so yearned for. After the attempted murder, she was forced to flee her home and change numerous residences.'
