Police sought to extend detention of fan who threw ketchup packet - court released: 'No grounds'

|
Police requested to extend the detention of a football fan who was arrested yesterday at Teddy Stadium for allegedly 'assaulting an officer' after throwing a ketchup packet at a police officer. The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court rejected the police position and determined there were no grounds for detention, releasing the fan without any conditions after he spent a night in custody. Attorney Anna Bril, Deputy District Public Defender for the Jerusalem District, stated that 'the police request is a clear example of unreasonable and disproportionate deprivation of a person's liberty, and is inconsistent with legal provisions.'
