Herzog: 'All religions must be respected, freedom of religion must be protected'

|
President Isaac Herzog visited the Stella Maris monastery in Haifa, against the backdrop of recent clashes there with Haredi Jews. "I am coming here on behalf of the entire State of Israel and the people of Israel, to commit to the full protection of freedom of religion and worship in the State of Israel," Herzog said. He added that "we must respect members of all religions, we have committed to this since the dawn of our existence. This is the most basic commandment of 'love your neighbor as yourself'." In recent times Hasidic men have come to pray in the monastery, and according to the Christian worshipers, "engage in provocations." (Lior El-Hai)
