Hungary's state news broadcasts temporarily suspended: 'Sorry we lied all these years'

|
Hungary's state television announced that its news broadcasts are temporarily suspended as the government carries out a "reorganization" of public broadcasting to make it "independent and credible." The flagship channel of state television, M1, displayed a black screen with a message that read "Public broadcasting must not lie. We apologize for doing so for many years!" The broadcasting reform comes against the backdrop of incoming Prime Minister Peter Magyar's election promise to reorganize state media and stop what he called "propaganda" under former Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
