A man armed with a hammer attempted to break into a synagogue in the southern Russian city of Sochi yesterday while children's activities were taking place inside. No one was injured in the incident. According to a statement from the office of Russia's Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar, the suspect arrived by taxi, threatened the security guard and tried to enter the synagogue grounds. Despite the guard's efforts to stop him, the suspect broke through the entrance gate with hammer blows and kicks, managing to enter the courtyard. However, he failed to enter the building itself. Police arrested the 39-year-old suspect, who is known to welfare services.
