Chief Superintendent Avishai Moalem, who commanded the West Bank District's Judea and Samaria Division and is considered the main suspect in the Ben-Gvir associates affair, is resigning from the police. He is expected to be appointed CEO of the Tiberias municipality, where he resides. Moalem is suspected, among other things, of avoiding the arrest of far-right activists in Judea and Samaria, allegedly in order to gain the favor of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and be promoted to the rank of deputy commissioner. He was arrested in 2024 and investigated by the Police Internal Investigations Department, was placed on forced leave at the time and was later investigated on suspicion of attempting to request police materials from a commander in violation of his restraining order conditions. Moalem claimed on his part that this was a political investigation and a systematic persecution against him.
