A rocket alert siren was activated Monday afternoon in Neve Yam on the Carmel Coast, near Atlit, after an interceptor was launched at an aerial target in Lebanon. The IDF Spokesperson's Office said that the interceptor was launched at a surface-to-air missile that was fired toward an Israeli Air Force's Hermes 450 drone in southern Lebanon in an area in which IDF soldiers are operating. No damage was caused, and no IDF injuries were reported, according to the IDF.
It is the southernmost community to face an alert since the ceasefire in Lebanon was declared — a ceasefire that has not actually stopped the fighting, but has significantly limited Israeli strikes in its neighbor to the north, especially in Beirut and areas north of the Litani River.
Shortly before the alert was activated, Lebanese media reported that Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michael Issa to discuss recent developments and preparations for this week’s upcoming meeting with the Israeli side in Washington. Salam said that “pressure must be applied on Israel to stop its attacks and ongoing violations, and to allow the ceasefire to take hold.”
Earlier Monday, the IDF announced that Master Sgt. (res.) Alexander Glovanyov, 47, a father of two, was killed Sunday by an explosives-laden FPV drone near the Lebanese border.
