The members of Kibbutz Yad Mordechai announced that they do not intend to participate in the state ceremony to mark the anniversary of the October 7 massacre, which they say has a "political nature," and that they are organizing a self-produced memorial ceremony. "We will examine each invitation if and when it arrives, but we do not intend to hold ceremonies of a political nature," the kibbutz said. The announcement comes after a number of other Gaza border communities announced that they would not participate in the ceremony organized by the government.
