Five Arab states are working on an initiative for a post-war Gaza which would pave the way for a Palestinian state in exchange for Saudi recognition of Israel and normalization between the countries, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing Arab sources.
The proposal, reportedly submitted to Israel through the U.S., is the first joint Arab plan to end the Gaza war and establish a two-state solution.
Saudi Arabia, one of the five countries involved in the initiative, is offering to normalize relations with Israel in exchange for creating a path to a Palestinian state.
According to Saudi and Egyptian sources, the proposal is still in being drawn up but has so far been met with refusal by the Israeli government, with the establishment of a Palestinian state being the main sticking point. (Ynet)
