Sources close to Hamas told ynet that intensive contacts are underway with Israel, mediated by the US, Egypt and Qatar, aimed at preventing a widespread Israeli takeover of the Gaza Strip. The sources claimed that the proposal on the table includes ending the fighting, full Israeli withdrawal, release of all hostages, disarmament of Palestinian factions, removal of senior Hamas military wing officials abroad and establishment of a civilian leadership to manage the Strip alongside a professional police force. Hamas claimed flexibility in negotiations but also preparation for renewed fighting if the proposal is rejected.
