The government approved the Shin Bet's entry into the fight against eradicating crime in Arab society – under which approximately 497 million shekels will be diverted from the 550 Five-Year Plan. As part of the program, approximately 364 million shekels will be allocated to the Shin Bet to establish a dedicated unit to combat smuggling and trafficking in combat means and to bolster intelligence and operational capabilities. In addition, approximately 132 million shekels will be allocated to the police to establish a dedicated national unit to combat crime in Arab society, including the establishment of technological systems and acquisition of advanced operational means. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that 'bringing the Shin Bet into the fight against crime in Arab society, which has become a national plague, is a dramatic development and a significant step.'
