Former IAF Flight School Commander on Cadets' Arrest: 'Not Shocking, Unfortunate Mistake'

|
Former IAF Flight School Commander, Brig. Gen. (res.) Israel Relik Shafir, said that the arrest of cadets in the pilots' course is "an exceptional event." Shafir said in an interview with ynet studio that "this is not an event that shakes the Air Force. It can be understood as a mistake. Putting young people in a relatively luxurious hotel was an unfortunate mistake that caused them to get confused." He added: "What will likely happen is that they will go through a review committee process, which is conducted in every course two weeks before the end - and if one of them is found to have 'skeletons in the closet' - he may be expelled or suspended. Their mistake is shared both by them and by their commanders."
