Doctor Who Worked at Soroka Hospital Sentenced to 27 Months for Pledging Allegiance to ISIS After Oct. 7

|
The Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court sentenced Dr. Mohammed Azzam, a doctor who worked at Soroka Medical Center, to 27 months in prison, suspended sentence and a fine of 15,000 shekels after he was convicted of membership in the ISIS terror organization. In the proceedings, conducted by attorneys Hofit Kantrovich and Tehila Nidam from the Southern District Attorney's Office, it was determined that Azzam underwent a prolonged process of ideological radicalization, pledged allegiance to the ISIS leader after the Oct. 7 terror attack, and possessed on his devices guides for preparing explosives and poisons. The court considered as an aggravating factor in sentencing the fact that the defendant served as a doctor at a public hospital where civilians and wounded soldiers were treated.
