As part of establishing the "Golan Defenders" unit, a mobile unit was inaugurated to operate under the Golan Brigade (474), aimed at protecting the Golan Heights sector during emergencies using specialized equipment. The unit will include local reservists who will utilize new, fast ATVs to prevent infiltration attempts by terrorist elements. Golan Brigade Commander Colonel Benny Kata spoke at the unit launch ceremony and vehicle distribution throughout the Golan Regional Council settlements: "'Golan Defenders' was established and grew as a living expression of the phrase 'Protecting the home that places love for the country and commitment to it as its guiding light.'" He quoted Yitzhak Rabin: "Security is not just in tanks, ships and missiles. Security is first and foremost about people."
