Just hours after being arrested outside UN headquarters in New York during a protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech, Democratic congressional candidate Samelys López published an op-ed about her arrest experience containing a series of grave accusations against Israel. The candidate, who received backing from Mayor Zohran Mamdani, wrote in The Guardian that she 'refuses to host someone who oversaw the slaughter of children,' adding that Netanyahu's place is in the courtroom in The Hague. López claimed that 'the Israeli apartheid regime disappears men, women and children into military prisons known for physical, sexual and psychological torture' and warned that 'every dollar invested in armament is a dollar stolen from communities in the United States.'
