Supreme Court partially accepts appeal by suspect in Shay-Lee Atari rape case

|
The Supreme Court partially accepted the appeal of the suspect in the sexual assault case of Shay-Lee Atari and another complainant, and overturned the determination that the scenario of suicide following the publication of his name requires proof through a psychiatrist's expert opinion. The Supreme Court ruled that suicide risks can also be proven by other experts such as a clinical psychologist or a social worker who has received appropriate training. It was further determined that the Magistrate's Court will re-examine the suspect's suicide risks following the publication authorization and balance them against the public interest in publishing his name. Additionally, it was determined that the suspect will be required to submit himself for examination by a neutral expert or an expert appointed by the complainants.
