The Lod District Court sentenced Hassan Bani Odeh (26), an illegal resident from Jenin, to six years in prison for severely injuring a soldier after running him over during a police chase in a stolen vehicle last year. Bani Odeh pleaded guilty and was convicted of aggravated assault, endangering human life on a roadway, receiving a stolen vehicle and illegal residency in Israel. According to the indictment, Bani Odeh, along with other Palestinians, stole a vehicle from the Tel Aviv area and fled after being identified by police patrol cars. While attempting to escape, he entered the Tzrifin military base, where he ran over the soldier who had locked the gate in an attempt to prevent him from fleeing.
