Saudi Arabia recorded a record number of executions during 2025, for the second consecutive year. According to data from the human rights organization Reprieve, which tracks death penalties in the kingdom, 347 people have been executed since the beginning of the year – compared to 345 last year. According to Reprieve and the AFP news agency, most executions were of individuals charged with drug offenses, and most were foreigners. The BBC reports that Saudi authorities do not disclose the method of execution, but it is estimated to be by firing squad or beheading. According to Reprieve, families of those executed generally do not receive prior notification, and afterward are not provided information about where the body was buried.
