Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who sparked controversy last week when he tweeted "Heil Hitler," addressed the UN Security Council and compared the war in Gaza to the Nazi regime. "20,000 people were killed in Gaza. These numbers cannot be hidden. We are returning to the Nazi era," he said. Israel's Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon responded, saying "It's unclear what he took before this morning's discussion, but nothing justifies his words." According to him, "Legitimizing this rhetoric harms the memory of the Holocaust and undermines the credibility of the UN."
