Colombia: Second-in-command of country's main cartel drowns after boat capsizes

Jose Gonzalo Sanchez, the second-in-command of Colombia's main drug cartel "Clan del Golfo," drowned after his boat capsized, the government confirmed to AFP news agency. Sanchez was wanted in his country for murder, forced displacement of populations, arms trafficking, illegal mining and extortion, as well as in the United States for drug trafficking. "Clan del Golfo" was recently designated as a terrorist organization by the US and is currently engaged in talks with the Colombian government in Qatar. The head of the negotiation team appointed by President Gustavo Petro, Alvaro Jimenez, said the boat Sanchez was traveling in capsized in the northern Cordoba province.
