Southern Command chief ordered loudspeakers setup, army admits: 'Goal is to film and show they exist'

|
Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asur relayed to soldiers the political echelon's directive, which he received from the General Staff, to set up loudspeakers to broadcast Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's UN speech, but left them the option of where to place the loudspeakers – even if they are far from Palestinian population centers. This was learned by ynet. The IDF said that "the directive is vague and open to interpretation on where to place the loudspeakers. The goal is to film and show that there are loudspeakers in Gaza territory broadcasting the speech." Additionally, the IDF issued a higher-level order not to comment on the command, but clarified that "the order was issued properly and will therefore be carried out."
