The U.S. has approved emergency arms deals worth approximately $11 billion to the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Jordan. Secretary of State Marco Rubio invoked special emergency authority to bypass the Congressional approval process, determining that the immediate supply of security equipment is essential to American national security interests. Under the deals, Kuwait will purchase advanced radar systems for air defense worth $8 billion, and the UAE will receive drone interception systems and fighter jet munitions with a total cost of more than $2.7 billion. In addition, a deal for aircraft spare parts and maintenance for Jordan worth $70.5 million was approved.
