The US Treasury Department has opened an investigation into whether tax money from Minnesota was transferred to the Somali terror group al-Shabaab. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this days after President Donald Trump called Minnesota a "center for money laundering activity" under Democratic Governor Tim Walz. The governor himself responded to the allegations on Sunday, saying that "Minnesota is a generous and prosperous state, that attracts criminals," but emphasized that "these people go to jail."
