Attorney General opposes elimination of appointment committees: 'Public service is not a job repository'

|
Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara published a legal opinion regarding the proposed bill to abolish professional appointment committees, stating that "The public service is intended to serve the public, and it is not a 'job repository' for government members. The committees they seek to eliminate are designed to ensure that appointments in the public service are made based on qualifications and suitability, not connections." According to the proposal, appointments that the committee examines would be made by the government without requiring committee approval - which is responsible for approving, among other things, the appointment of the Shin Bet chief and other senior positions.
