The parents of hostage survivor Edan Alexander said in a statement at Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv, 'The moment I first hugged Edan was when time stopped, our heartbeat and breathing returned, and the family became whole again. But with the light came the pain, as Edan began describing the unimaginable hardship, hunger, water shortages, and horrific sanitary conditions - but the most terrifying sound that Edan feared was the explosions of war. Any moment could have been the last.'
