Baruch Neriya from Pardes Hanna is the 9-year-old boy hospitalized in serious condition at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, suffering from brain inflammation after contracting a 'brain-eating amoeba' (Naegleria fowleri). Prof. Danny Eitan, director of pediatric intensive care at Ruth Rappaport Children's Hospital at Rambam, said that "yesterday a nine-year-old boy was admitted with signs of central nervous system infection. He was transferred from another hospital. During the examination, suspicion arose that it was an amoeba infection, based on the clinical description, laboratory findings and history of exposure to the Sea of Galilee water. He is currently in very serious condition, being treated by the team."
