The condition of Iris Stelzer, who was elected mayor of Herdecke about two weeks ago and was stabbed yesterday, remains serious. German newspaper Bild reported that Stelzer's two children were questioned. A neighbor told the newspaper, "Half an hour before the emergency services arrived to evacuate her, I heard Stelzer arguing with her son - they were really screaming at each other." According to him, he often heard family members fighting. According to Bild, there was an incident of domestic violence last summer in which the adopted daughter (17) allegedly threatened her mother - an incident involving a knife.
