Elderly man from Eilat who confessed to murdering his son recants. Court extends his detention by 6 more days

|
The Eilat Magistrate's Court extended the detention of Asher Goldstein (88), who had confessed to murdering his 5-year-old son in 1974, by six additional days. In his latest interrogation, Goldstein recanted and claimed he did not murder his son, despite his previous confession. Judge Guy Avnon noted in his decision: "The suspect's attorney is correct in arguing that the grounds for detention are not at maximum strength, especially given the suspect's age. However, one cannot ignore the exceptional severity of the offense attributed to him. For these reasons, I believe it is not possible at this stage to allow his release to any detention alternative."
