More than 40 countries boycotted the UN conference marking 25 years since the Durban Conference against Racism. This breaks the record set at the previous conference in 2021, when 38 countries boycotted the event. The widespread boycott comes after a diplomatic effort led by the Foreign Ministry with countries around the world aimed at expanding the number of countries that would not participate in the conference, as during the conference the comparison of Israel's government to apartheid was established. Israel's mission to the UN, led by Ambassador Danny Danon, worked with the presidency of the General Assembly to scale down the conference. Danon said 'it is time for the UN to bury the toxic legacy of Durban instead of continuing to revive it.'
