A Connecticut court sentenced Ahmed Khalil Elshazly, a 29-year-old state resident, to 92 months in prison and lifelong supervised release for attempting to provide material support to the ISIS terror organization and join its ranks in Syria. According to the court, Elshazly pledged allegiance to the organization, and security forces apprehended him in December 2019 as he attempted to board a ship with the aim of reaching Turkey, from where he would cross into Syria and join the terror organization. He pleaded guilty in 2022. In August 2025, prison guards found handwritten plans in his cell for organizing a riot at the detention facility.
