According to the New York Times, one of the reasons for the American attack on Iran at the current timing is that US intelligence assessments determined that Israeli strikes delayed the Iranian nuclear program by only about six months. The assessments also concluded that it is likely that additional Israeli attacks would not cause a longer delay.
