Britain to Transfer Chagos Islands to Mauritius After 211 Years

|
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced signing an agreement under which Britain will relinquish sovereignty over the Chagos Islands east of Africa, which it held for 211 years, and transfer them to Mauritius. With this, the London government loses official control of another part of the historic British Empire, but the agreement will ensure its control over the strategic Diego Garcia base located on the islands, as Mauritius will lease it to Britain for the next 99 years.
