The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) removed 22 Palestinians from its list of journalists and media workers killed in the Gaza war after a renewed review revealed new information about their ties to terror organizations. The review was launched following obituaries published by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, in which some of the people included on the list were presented as fighters. Among the names removed was Abdallah Iyad Bareis, who was the chief photographer for the television channel of Hamas's Ministry of Education and was killed in an Israeli airstrike on his family's home in Khan Younis camp in January 2024.
