Ben Husin (31), a Canadian Jew of Kurdish descent and holder of Israeli citizenship, was released from prison in Kurdistan after 11 years and escaped execution. Husin is expected to return to Israel in the coming days. The death sentence against him was removed following a reconciliation agreement reached last year. Husin was imprisoned for causing the death of a Kurdish man. The international efforts for his release were led by attorney Alan Lavi and a team of activists from the United States: Hershel Gatdiner, Shimon Relnitzky, Meir Tzvi Tauber and Shlomo Lando.
