Kish on Lack of Frameworks for Sephardic Students in Haredi Education: 'Sanctions Will Be Imposed'

Tamar Trabelsi-Hadad|
Education Minister Yoav Kish responded to the controversy over discrimination against Sephardic female students who were not placed in seminaries due to their ethnic origin. Kish said that "the Ministry of Education will not allow discrimination in any educational institution in Israel, and any institution that prevents admission based on ethnic origin will face sanctions, including withdrawal of funding." He added that "the seminaries acted against the law when they refused to accept Haredi female students. In Jerusalem, the issue has been resolved and two additional classrooms will be allocated, allowing all students to return to their studies as early as the beginning of next week."
