The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which operates as a UN agency, reported in its annual climate status update that the amount of heat accumulated on Earth reached a record level in 2025, warning of "consequences to be feared for hundreds, even thousands of years." UN Secretary-General António Guterres added: "The global climate is in a state of emergency. Earth is being pushed beyond its limits. All key climate indicators are in the red zone."
