Shihabbah, the mother of Benjamin Yemenu Zeleka, said her son "was a good boy who loved to help." In her first response to the murder, she said: "From age 14 he worked and helped me and the children. The murderers are animals who mauled the child." She asked the court for the youths who murdered her son to be in prison for as long as possible.
