The State Comptroller's Office responded to the Military Defense's claim that 'the authority to investigate October 7 events is reserved exclusively for a state commission of inquiry,' stating that 'we view with great severity the notice about lack of authority for the State Comptroller to conduct an audit of one of the most serious failures in Israel's history. This is an attempt to deny an explicit provision of the State Comptroller's Basic Law. The investigation of October 7 events is being conducted at all levels - political, military and civilian. If a state commission of inquiry is established, the Comptroller will coordinate jurisdictional boundaries with it.'
