The United States plans to maintain a military presence at an air base in Damascus to help facilitate a security agreement between Syria and Israel, mediated by the U.S. This was reported to Reuters news agency by six sources familiar with the matter. According to the report, the base is located at the entrance to several areas in southern Syria that are expected to become a demilitarized zone as part of a possible agreement between Damascus and Jerusalem.
