Report: Iran and Oman close to deal on Strait of Hormuz that would include 'service fees'

|
Iran and Oman are nearing an agreement on shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. According to a New York Times report citing Iranian and American officials, the deal would have vessels entering the Persian Gulf use a route controlled by Iran, while ships leaving the Gulf would sail in a route closer to Oman. Iranian sources said the agreement includes 'service fees' that would allegedly be used to 'cover the environmental impact of shipping, vessel security and manpower.' According to Iranian sources, the revenues would be split equally between Iran and Oman. A U.S. official claimed the Iranian version is 'not accurate' and said all routes would not require approval from Iran and would not include transit fees.
