The U.S. Department of Justice has filed an indictment against 17 Iranian citizens for conducting a global hacking campaign on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iranian entities. According to the indictment, members of the Mabna Institute based in Tehran operated since 2013 and successfully infiltrated approximately 8,000 accounts of professors in the U.S. and Israel. They also breached email accounts of employees at American and European companies, as well as a series of governmental and international organizations. Among the victims was HBO, from which scripts were stolen, including from the series 'Game of Thrones.' The network members attempted to extort approximately $6 million in Bitcoin from HBO. The U.S. is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to their capture.
